A CAREER AS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANT
Human resources is an extremely vast field to work in, but one role many people consider within this profession is that of the recruitment consultant.
A recruitment consultant is responsible for finding candidates for temporary or permanent job roles either as part of an agency or working in-house for a larger company.
The roles a consultant has to fill may be entry level positions or head hunting managers for more senior positions.
The individual performs this task by building relationships with client companies or the firm they are working for in-house to get a deep understanding of what the company needs.
They are then tasked with attracting the right candidates, either by head hunting individuals already in employment or by placing advertisements on the internet.
A recruitment consultant will then screen candidates through their resumes, interview them and do background checks. Once the right candidate - or a few attractive prospects - have been found the consultant will then refer them to the company for final approval.
It is also the duty of a recruitment consultant to liaise between the employer's finance department and the prospective employee about salary levels, benefits such as holiday and career development opportunities.
In order to succeed as a recruitment consultant an individual will need to be resourceful, able to listen to a brief carefully and work to this, have a good sense for people and demonstrate exceptional organizational skills.
Salaries do vary across different sectors .
Those entering the profession should normally have a degree. This can be in any subject, though having read human resources at university could prove to be beneficial.
Postgraduate study is not essential and preference is given more to practical experience, therefore work experience and part-time work in the field is important for those hoping to secure a first job.
Candidates should also be able to demonstrate their enthusiasm for the field, people skills and organizational capabilities, either through a strong mission statement or volunteer/extra curricular activity.
